04/27/2010 (Nora Manthey)
The latest meeting on the EnergyBus Communication Protocoll 1.0 took place at the CiA (CAN in Automation) headquarter in Nuremberg, Germany in May. A follow up meeting online is scheduled for 11 June 2010, while the team and members will meet face to face on 27 July in Munich. Members are welcome to take part.
At the past workshop in March, Mr. Andreas Kaplun of CiA introduced the work draft proposal of CiA 454, based on EnergyBus protocol v 0.4 beta and EnergyBus specification v 0.1 created by Mr. Dörndorfer of telerob and Mr. Fuchs of EnergyBus. After discussion, the group decided to restructure the protocol into six parts and defined further improvements. The following meeting, which took place on 12 May saw even further progress.
Now, the team is calling the members for their input. If you would like to participate in the meetings coming up in June and July, please drop an email to Mr. Johannes Dörndorfer for further informations. The meetings are open to EnergyBus members only.

The communication protocol
The communication protocol in its newest version 1.0 is the last step to introduce the EnergyBus connectors into the market in 2011. Rosenberger will apply the protocol in its first connector series this year.
The protocol is based on CAN and enables the components of the LEVs to communicate with each other. While the baisc structure and requirements are defined by EnergyBus members, CiA is responsible for the correct conversion into a communication protocol based on CAN, a commonly used language for machine interfaces. The uniform exchange of information in CAN enables the components to provide maximum performance by clearly communicating with each other. What makes EnergyBus special is that energy and service data can now safely be transmitted through the same connector at the same time.
